Celebrations Begin In Telangana

Streets and offices of pro-Telangana organizations erupt in joy at the Congress' announcement of a separate Telangana state.


Hundreds of pro-Telangana activists stormed the streets of Hyderabad to celebrate the Congress High Command's announcement of the formation of Telangana (read here).

Hundreds of TRS workers, who gathered at the Telangana Bhavan, started celebrations immediately after receiving news that the UPA Coordination Committee has passed a unanimous resolution in favour of Telangana. Sweets were distributed, and the TRS workers shouted slogans praising their party president K Chandrasekhar Rao. They claimed that Telangana is now a reality due to KCR's continuous struggle.

Celebrations were also held at the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee and other pro-Telangana groups.

Several pro-Telangana workers came to the streets with Telangana and pink flags, shouting slogans of victory in a long-drawn battle of nearly six decades.

Meanwhile, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao welcomed the decision, and insisted that the process of the formation of Telangana be completed at the earliest. He said that the Congress cannot be trusted till the passing of a Telangana bill in Parliament.

TPJAC chairman M Kodandaram also welcomed the decision. However, he insisted that the process be set in motion immediately and completed within a time frame to make the Telangana state a reality. (INN)
